Ngoako Bopape is currently Chief Benefits Officer of the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI). He has been a member of the Principal Officers Association since 2005. Ngoako has 14 years' experience in the retirement funds industry in different capacities. Initially he worked in the administration of retail products but later went on to take up the roles of Trustee and Principal Officer.
Mark de Klerk is the Principal Executive Officer of the Anglo American Platinum Group of Retirement Funds (11 funds), and also holds the position of Senior Manager: Retirement Funds, for Anglo American Platinum. Mark has extensive experience in the retirement funds industry and has been actively involved in promoting communication to fund members over the last 20 years. He is Vice Chairperson of the Principal Officers Association of South Africa and is a member of the Institute of Directors. He previously served on the Western Cape regional committee of the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) when he was still in the HR profession in the 1990s. He has received merit awards from the IRF for his active role in fund communication. Mark has presented papers at both local and international conferences and was one of the International Judges for the 2011 Global Pensions Awards. He served as an Independent Trustee on two umbrella retirement funds for over 10 years.
Johan de Waal - Director
Johan de Waal is employed by Implats as the Group's Employee Benefits Manager. He is the Principal Officer of Implats Pension Fund (established by combining Novel Platinum Pension Fund, Impala Provident Fund and Impala Supplementary Pension Fund), Impala Refineries Provident Fund and Impala Medical Plan. He is also a trustee of the Impala Workers Provident Fund and the Chairman of the Impala Beneficiary Fund. He has been active in the retirement industry since 1998. At Implats he is responsible for the long-term benefits of employees.
Ashley Indurjith - Director
Ashley obtained his LLB degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal during 2000. He also completed the School for Legal Practice during the same year. Ashley commenced employment at the FSB in their Pensions Department at the beginning of 2001. He spent the next 8 to 9 years fulfilling various roles within the Department which ranged from analysing retirement fund rules to conducting compliance visits on retirement funds and administrators. He also managed one of the teams in the Licensing and Registration Department. Ashley joined the Liberty Group during November 2010 as the Principal Executive Officer of the Lifestyle suite of funds and the Liberty staff funds.
Isgaak Jarodien - Director
Isgaak Jarodien is currently the Group Retirement Funds Manager at Illovo Sugar Ltd in Durban where he is also Principal Executive Officer of three Illovo retirement funds. Illovo Sugar Ltd is a multi-national company with not only local retirement funds but also retirement funds in six African countries.
He previously served as a Director at National Treasury in the Legal Tax Design Division where he was exclusively responsible for the Personal Income Tax and Savings portfolios. Prior to his appointment at National Treasury, he served as a Senior Legal Consultant to various financial services institutions.
Apart from being an admitted Attorney and Certified Financial Planner, he holds several degrees and diplomas in the areas of law, financial planning and tax. His qualifications include a Masters Degree in Laws and a B Com (Hons) specialising in income tax. In 2009 he passed the Certificate in Fundamentals in Islamic Finance with distinction, which is issued by the Islamic Finance Institute of South Africa. Isgaak is also an examiner for Milpark Business School in the Financial Planning & Insurance Faculty.
Sibusiso Luthuli - Chairperson
Sibusiso Luthuli is the Chief Executive Officer and Principal Officer of the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund. He has a background in banking and was formerly CEO of Ithala Bank Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Ithala Development Finance Corporation Limited. He also serves as the non-executive Chairman of Cipla Medpro Pharmaceuticals Limited and is a non-executive Director of Telkom SA Limited.
Patrick Mayne - Director
Patrick Mayne is an actuary and Principal Officer of the Corporate Selection Umbrella Funds. He has been a Director in fields such as IT and HR and has strong project management skills. Patrick’s main interests are corporate governance and risk management.
John Oliphant - Director
John Oliphant holds a BSc (Actuarial Science) degree and a BSc (Hons) Advanced Mathematics of Finance degree, both from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He was previously the Head of Quant Investing at Stanlib, where he managed long only funds and hedge funds. John is currently Head of Investments and Actuarial at the Government Employees Pension Fund - the largest pension fund in Africa.
John is the main driver behind the investment strategies of the fund. Currently the fund invests in different asset classes, from conventional bonds to sophisticated private equity investments. It is John's responsibility to ensure that the fund achieves maximum returns with minimum risk in each and every investment it makes. He has been the key driver behind the GEPF's responsible investment policies and the setting up of the UN PRI South African Network. John is also a member of the following committees and councils: Investment Committee of the GEPF, Investment Committee of the Pan African Infrastructure Development Fund ("PAIDF"), Advisory Council of the Southern African Pension Fund Investment Forum ("SAPFIF"), Chairman of the Code for Responsible Investing in South Africa ("CRISA"), Board member of UN PRI, South African Bureau of Standards Investment Committee member ("SABS") and Johannesburg Stock Exchange SRI Index Advisory Committee.
Sipho Sidu is Principal Officer of the Mineworkers Provident Fund and has held this position for the past eleven years. He has played numerous other roles during his career besides that of Principal Officer, such as fund accountant, consultant and senior consultant. Sipho has also developed skills in his work role in the fields of marketing and governance.
Madula is the Principal Officer of the Sentinel Mining Industry Retirement Fund and Mine Employees Pension Fund. Prior to this, he worked for the Financial Services Board in the Enforcement & Surveillance Department. Madula also worked for Alexander Forbes Financial Services as an Employee Benefits Consultant to a number of retirement funds. Madula holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Maths & Physics from the University of the Western Cape, Leading Executive Programme Certificate from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of the Free State and is a Certified Financial Planner. He is a past Board Member and chair of the IRF’s Legal & Technical Committee.
Lidia Visser - Director
Lidia Visser holds a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her current position at the Sasol Pension Fund is that of Principal Officer but she has also been the Administration Manager, as well as the Manager of the Pensioner Payroll during her five-year career there. Prior to that, Lidia worked for Commercial Systems Installations as the Executive Office Manager for a period of nine years. Here she was responsible for VAT, payment of tax, payroll and PAYE administration, and making the company contributions to the medical aid and the pension fund. Before joining Commercial Systems Installations, Lidia worked for the Commercial Union insurance company as a manager in the third party personal injury department.
Lindy Wingrove-Gibson - Director
Lindy Wingrove-Gibson is currently Principal Officer for the City of Johannesburg Pension Fund. She is also an independent trustee and chairperson for several other funds, including the Hollard Umbrella Pension & Provident Funds. While she was Head of Legal and Compliance at mCubed Employee Benefits, her role was to ensure compliance by the funds and the various business units, managing the risk within the business and assessing risk within the funds, implementing the necessary risk management plans, providing legal and technical support and taking ownership of interaction with the regulators.
Lindy has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Laws degree, and several other qualifications in labour law, financial planning and pensions law.
